Gouden Carolus is a Belgian whisky produced by Brewery Het Anker, located in Mechelen, Belgium. The brewery has a rich history deeply rooted in the city, and its flagship beer, Gouden Carolus, takes its name from the gold coins minted during the reign of Emperor Charles V — a nod to Mechelen's historical significance as an imperial city. Over time, Het Anker evolved from a celebrated Belgian brewery into a producer of refined spirits, adding whisky to its repertoire alongside its iconic beer range. In 2025, the brewery was acquired by Brewery Huyghe, known for the Delirium brand. The centrepiece of the Gouden Carolus whisky range is the Single Malt, which is distilled from the mash of Gouden Carolus Tripel beer — a distinctive approach that gives the whisky a uniquely Belgian character. This beer-to-whisky connection is even reflected in the bottle design, which depicts both the brewery and the distillery. The portfolio also includes expressions such as the Gouden Carolus Imperial Barrel, a U.S.-exclusive variant introduced in 2022 via Artisanal Imports. Gouden Carolus Single Malt has earned international recognition, winning a "Master" award in the category "Europe – Single Malt Premium" at The World Whisky Masters. With 17 beers and a growing series of whiskies, Het Anker stands as one of Belgium's most celebrated and innovative producers.
