Dufftown Distillery was founded in 1896 by Peter MacKenzie at the height of the Scottish whisky boom, in the heart of Speyside. Fittingly, the distillery was converted from an old meal mill, a common origin story for several Scottish distilleries of the era. It draws its water from the same pure spring it has relied upon since its very first day of production, and is located in the village of Dufftown — widely acknowledged as the malt whisky capital of the world, situated on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Today, Dufftown Distillery is owned by Diageo and is one of the largest in their portfolio of 28 working distilleries, with a production capacity exceeding 6 million litres per year. Its spirit is perhaps best known as the foundation of The Singleton of Dufftown, a single malt expression that has been part of the broader Singleton brand since 2007 — a brand that also encompasses Glendullan and Glen Ord. The Singleton of Dufftown is celebrated for its approachable, fruit-forward Speyside character. The distillery's whisky has long played an important role in Scotch blending, originally produced for the blending firm Mackenzie & Co. Today, under Diageo's stewardship, it continues to be a significant contributor to both blended and single malt Scotch whisky.
