Amrut Distilleries was founded in 1948 in Bangalore, India, by J. N. Radhakrishna Rao Jagdale — a moment in history that coincided with India's hard-won independence from British rule. The name "Amrut" is derived from Sanskrit, meaning "nectar of the gods," a fitting tribute to a distillery that would go on to put Indian whisky firmly on the global map. Today, the company is led by third-generation Managing Director Rakshit N. Jagdale, continuing a proud family legacy. Amrut is widely recognised as the pioneer of Indian single malt whisky. Its portfolio is remarkably diverse, spanning close to 50 single malt variants alongside mass-market whiskies, rum, brandy, and gin — producing 83 brands in total.
